Overview
Welcome to the website for the Boston University Triathlon Team (BUTT). Our mission is to bring a triathlon presence to the BU community and offer a way for students to learn about the sport and compete intercollegiately. The goal is to make triathlons fun and accessible and to show that athletes at the collegiate level are capable of being competitive in the broader triathlon community. All it takes is the desire to improve and the willingness to train. Sprint distance triathlons in particular-typically 500 meters of swimming, 13 miles of biking, and 5k of running-are easier to complete than many people think, and we encourage all full-time undergraduate and graduate students to come out for the BU team.
The team is a member of the Northeast Collegiate Triathlon Conference (NECTC) and USA Triathlon. The NECTC was formed in 2006 to formally bring the sport of triathlon to the collegiate level. In general, triathlons have attracted older generations of competitors and have only recently started to see the involvement of younger triathletes. The NECTC was established to bring the sport of triathlon to east coast collegiate students.
The Boston University Triathlon Team contains members ranging in experience from beginners to triathletes that have been competing for several years. Many members of the team competed in one of the three sports in high school and are looking to expand their talents to all three sports. Other members have backgrounds in a variety of different sports.
BU is located along the Charles River where running is accessible and enjoyable (bearable in the winter) all year long. The team also trains with the BU Cycling team, and in the winter works with Ali Winslow Sports and Landry's Bicycles for indoor biking sessions. BU Fitrec is a great place to swim and lift, and is ideal for the cold winter months.
