Research Interests

During my predoctoral studies I was working on these projects in the Shinn-Cunningham lab

Attention

How does spatial separation between two competing talker affect intelligibility when listening to one or both talkers?

Listening strategies for either case. What is the role of spatial attention?

Roles of Energetic Masking (EM) and Informational Masking (IM).

What defines IM and EM?

Leech neurons (recorded in Woods Hole 2004)

Development of a neural model of divided attention.

(work presented at the following meetings:

ICAD 2004, ICAD 2005, ASA 2005, ASA 2006, with Gin Best, Shawn Sarwar)

What is the role of selective auditory attention in a speech identification task?

In an IM paradigm, the amount of spatial release from masking depends on the types of stimulus features that the listener is attending to.

Reverberation

How does reverberation alter information in auditory spatial cues?

Empirics of ongoing interaural level differences (ILD) and interaural phase differences (IPD).

(work presented at the following meetings:  ASA 2004, with Kosuke Kawakyu, Satyavarta)

Shannon information contained in reverberant ILDs and IPDs.

(work presented at the following meetings: Cosyne 2005)

Psychophysics of sound localization in reverberant rooms.

(work presented at the following meetings: BMES 2005, with Justin Kiggins)

Audio-Sapiana (developed in Telluride, see publication in

NME 2005)

How does reverberation degrade speech intelligibility?

What are temporal and energetic parameters that cause degradation in intelligibility?
